AULANDER – The Bertie Sheriff’s Office is advising residents of the Aulander area to be on the lookout for a person who fled on foot Wednesday afternoon following a high speed chase with the NC Highway Patrol.
Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said law enforcement officers are searching for a Black male, approximately 6’-2” and weighing 160 pounds. He was last seen on foot on Pine Drive in Aulander. At that time he was wearing all black clothing shirt and pants.
Around mid-afternoon on Wednesday, the North Carolina Highway Patrol attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and led NCHP Troopers on a high speed chase. That chase ended when the vehicle being chased crashed into a canal from where the driver fled on foot.
If you see anyone suspicious in your area, immediately call the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office at 252-794-5330.
