JACKSON – Northampton County Manager Julian Phillips announced during the May 13 Board of Commissioners meeting that the county had received a grant to conduct an Asset and Inventory Assessment (AIA).

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) is offering the county American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding for the project.

The grant will be used for a wastewater asset and inventory assessment.

“They’re extending $150,000 to Northampton County,” Phillips said.

According to documentation from NCDEQ, funds must be expended before the federal deadline of December 31, 2026.

Board Chair Charles Tyner asked about the status of another pending grant in the amount of $1 million, though he didn’t elaborate on what that money would be used for. Phillips said the county was still waiting for notification of approval for that grant.

Commissioner Geneva Faulkner motioned to approve a resolution accepting the $150,000 AIA grant, and Melvetta Broadnax Taylor seconded. The vote was unanimously in favor by those in attendance. Commissioner Kelvin Edwards was unable to attend the meeting.
