Her passion for teaching extended beyond her professional life; she was a dedicated member of Meherrin Baptist Church, where she joyfully volunteered to work with children in vacation bible school and served as a Sunday School teacher. Dixie’s greatest joy came from her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her cherished grandchildren and watching her husband, Ed, on the baseball field. Her warmth, devotion, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Dixie Rose Winn Courtright’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community will forever be remembered. May she rest in peace.
She is preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Thomas Winn; her mother, Mattie Leigh Winn; her sister, Ethylene Hutchinson; and brothers, Roy, Leonard, and George Winn.
Dixie is survived by her devoted husband, Ed; her daughter, Jennifer Kellett and husband John of Odenville, AL; two sons, Jason Courtright and wife Nikki of Ahoskie, NC, and Jeremy Courtright and wife Anna of Knightdale, NC; nine grandchildren, Kendall, Brody, Anderson, and Kaison Courtright, Tinsley Anne Janney, Lilly, Sawyer, Brooke, and Gabriel Kellett; her sister, Mary Leigh Crumpler, and husband Paul of Colonial Heights, VA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will all remember her fondly.
