Post 102 Junior team falls on Tuesday

AHOSKIE – Strong hitting was not enough as American Legion Post 102’s Junior team fell 7-5 vs. Hamilton Post 131 (Bear Grass) on Tuesday.
Led by three hits from Tre Thorne, Post 102 outhit their opponents, but still could not pull out the win.
Thorne helped to get Post 102 off on the right foot as he drove in two runs in the first inning.
Post 102 padded their lead to 5-0 by plating three runs in the bottom of the second inning. That offensive surge was highlighted by RBI singles by Brayden Baggett and Thorne.
However, Post 131 rallied to take the lead in the top of the fifth inning.
Kellen Whitby started on the mound for Post 102. He surrendered four hits and four runs (zero earned) over four innings of work, striking out two and walking four.
Ty Scott stepped on the hill first for Hamilton Post 131. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and five runs (two earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking three.
Thorne provided pop in the middle of the Post 102 lineup, going 3-for-4 at the plate and driving home three runs.
Riley Hollowell collected two hits for Post 102 in three at bats.
Post 102 will be back in action on Wednesday, May 29 at Beaufort County. Their next home game is a June 1 doubleheader vs. Wayne County. Game one of the twinbill starts at 2 p.m. at the Hertford County High School baseball field.
