MURFREESBORO – Chowan University announces the establishment of the Nancy Long Clark Graphic Design Endowed Scholarship, created by Hugh and Gayle Clark of Raleigh.
This scholarship is a tribute to Nancy Long Clark, an alumna of Chowan University and the late wife of Hugh Clark. Both Hugh and Nancy graduated from Chowan in 1972 and 1973, respectively.
The Nancy Long Clark Graphic Design Endowed Scholarship will provide annual support to one or more deserving undergraduate student(s) pursuing a major in Graphic Design at Chowan University. To be eligible for this scholarship, the recipient(s) must be from North Carolina or Virginia.
Hugh Clark shared that he is thrilled to be able to give back to Chowan, where he got his start, and support the education of future generations. He fondly reminisced about his time at Chowan, sharing memories of living in the home of President and Mrs. Bruce Whitaker during one summer. He also expressed gratitude towards Hargus Taylor, the dedicated chaplain who served the university for several decades.
Chowan University holds a special place in Hugh’s heart, as it not only provided him with a quality education but also lifelong friendships.
Dr. Rosemary Thomas, President of Chowan University, expressed her delight at the Clarks’ generous contribution.
“We are deeply honored and grateful for the generosity of Hugh and Gayle Clark in establishing the Nancy Long Clark Graphic Design Endowed Scholarship at Chowan University,” Dr. Thomas said. “This scholarship not only honors the memory of Nancy Long Clark, but through their generosity they are ensuring that deserving Graphic Design students have the opportunity to fulfill their academic and professional aspirations. Chowan University is immensely proud to be the recipient of such a meaningful and impactful gift.”
