AHOSKIE – Tre Thorne collected three hits in four at bats as the Post 102 Junior American Legion defeated Hobgood, 13-9, here Tuesday at Hertford County High School.
Thorne tripled in the sixth inning, doubled in the first inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
Hobgood got on the board in the top of the first inning after Reed Kennedy singled, and Post 102 committed an error, each scoring one run.
Post 102 took their first lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the first after Hobgood committed an error, Thorne doubled, and Zachary Elayah singled, each scoring one run.
Trey Harris had an RBI groundout as Hobgood tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third.
A wild pitch gave Post 102 a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third.
Hobgood took the lead, 5-4, in the top of the fourth thanks to singles by Jacob Tutor and Steven Ribustelo.
Post 102 flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring seven runs on six hits to take an 11-6 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Thomas Newsome on a 3-0 count that drove in two runs.
Aiden Brown pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief for Post 102. He surrendered six hits and four runs while, striking out three and walking one.
Newsome was Post 102’s starting pitcher. He gave up five hits and five runs (three earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out three and walking two.
Luke Lanier led things off on the hill for Hobgood. He surrendered three hits and four runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking one.
Post 102 accumulated 11 hits in the game. Mason Brooks and Thorne each collected three hits. Aiden Brown collected two hits in four at bats.
Hobgood piled up 11 hits in the game. Trey Harris drove the middle of the lineup, leading Hobgood with two runs batted in. Leadoff hitter Steven Ribustelo led Hobgood with three hits in four at bats. Landon Browning and Carlos Martinez each collected multiple hits for Hobgood.
