MURFREESBORO – Eileen Ann Marie MacCausland Barnes, age 81, of Broad Street, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at the Hampton Woods Nursing Home in Jackson, NC. Born on September 25, 1942 to Winfred “Mac” and Elsie MacCausland on Prince Edward Island, Eileen was the eldest of 3 children, including her two brothers, Owen and Harold.

Eileen pursued her passion for nursing in Montreal at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Her commitment to healthcare continued many years later when she attended nurse anesthesia school in North Carolina. A devoted aunt, Eileen was a constant presence in the lives of her niece, Cynthia and nephew Chris, frequently traveling to Maine to celebrate their milestones and special events. Her deep affection for her birthplace, PEI, never faded and she often visited, eventually purchasing a summer home there. After her first husband, Larry’s passing, Eileen remained in Greensboro until she met and married Stanley Barnes, a gentle farmer of cotton and peanuts from Murfreesboro, NC. Together they shared many happy years and made countless trips to PEI enjoying the company of family and friends.

In her later years Eileen faced the challenges of chronic arthritis with her health gradually declining. Stanley’s devoted care along with the support of her devoted friend and caregiver, June Miller for the last eight years, provided Eileen with comfort and companionship until her passing.

Along with her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her first husband Larry Mehaffey.

Eileen will be deeply missed by her husband, Stanley; dedicated caregiver, June Miller; her friends and family; especially her brother Owen, his wife Nancy and beloved niece and nephew, Cynthia and Chris.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, June 25, 2024, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro, NC, and other times at the home.
