WINDSOR – A challenger has filed for the District 1 seat on the Bertie County Board of Education.

On Friday, the last day of filing, Regina B. Harmon of Windsor filled out her Notice of Candidacy, thus officially making the District 1 seat a contested race during the Nov. 5 General Election.

District 1 incumbent Reba Cooper Carlton, also of Windsor, filed June 18 to seek another term on the school board.

Another incumbent, Tarsha Bush Dudley of Republican Road, Windsor, filed June 11 for the school board’s District 5 seat. No other candidate filed for that particular seat.

School board seats are for four-year terms.

The filing period, which got underway June 10, was also open for one seat (four-year term) on the Bertie County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors. John M. Griffin of Lewiston Woodville was the only candidate to file.

The school board and the Soil and Water Supervisors are non-partisan.
