RC area under Excessive Heat Warning

The National Weather Service Office in Wakefield, VA has placed its region, which includes the Roanoke-Chowan area, under an Excessive Heat Warning today (Friday) from 11 am until 8 pm.
Dangerous heat is expected today. Temps in the upper 90s, combined with high humidity will lead to heat index values around 110 degrees. Use extreme caution and take frequent breaks if you must be outdoors!
Today’s official forecast for the Roanoke-Chowan area counties shows an expected high temperature of 97 with heat index values as high as 108. Southwest wind around 8 mph.
There’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms later this afternoon, mainly before 8 pm. Tonight’s low is 76.
On Saturday, expect a high temp of 96 degrees and a heat index as high as 107. Showers and thunderstorms are likely (60% chance) after 2 pm. Rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible.
Showers and thunderstorms may continue into the evening hours on Saturday where the tow temperature is expected at around 73 degrees.
Sunday’s high temp is expected at around 88 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. A chance of showers, with thunderstorms, are possible after 11 am. Sunday night’s low is forecasted at 71 degrees.
The start of a new week on Monday brings a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 89 degrees.
