AHOSKIE – The inaugural Fan Con NC premieres in Ahoskie on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Fan Con NC is a fun and creative event for fans of comic books, superheroes, movies, television shows, horror, games, and anime. Fan Con NC will be held from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Ahoskie Recreation Gym, located at 700 West Main Street, behind the Ahoskie Senior Apartments.

A fan convention (also known as a comic con or fan meeting) is an event in which fans of a particular topic gather to hold programs, contest, meet experts and famous personalities, and each network with other. A fan con is very similar to Halloween, but just not only in October.

The day will be filled with celebrity panels, costume contests, games, music, merchandise vendors, autograph sessions, food vendors, giveaways, and more. This is a family friendly event and all ages are welcome.

Tickets for kids ages 0 – 11 are free, Admission is $10 for youth (ages 12 – 17), $20 for adults (ages 18-64); and $10 for senior citizens (ages 65-and-over). Kids (up to age 11) are admitted free.

Celebrity panelists at the event include actor Curtis Lyons, actress and writer Arkeisha Roberts, Miss Black NC Ricki Nelson, actor Nick Basta, actor Aqeel T. Ash-Shakoor, and actress Alisa Harris. They will be discussing their work in film and television and will be available for photo opportunities and autographs.

Costume contests will be held by age group and various categories. Cash prizes will be given to the top three in each category.

The focus of Fan Con NC is positive, creative self expression and how it can benefit mental health and well being.

Educational vendors will be on hand offering information and referrals to mental health service providers.
