Gulf South pre-season poll released

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – The Gulf South Conference announced on July 23 the preseason football poll selected by the league’s head coaches.

Chowan, coming off a 0-10 season in 2023, is focused on bouncing back with renewed determination and vigor in the upcoming year. The Hawks were selected to be tied for 7th with Erskine in 2024, with Valdosta State and West Florida garnering the top spots in this year’s preseason poll.

Valdosta State, picked to finish first in GSC, went 12-2 in 2023 before losing to Lenoir-Rhyne in the NCAA Quarterfinal.

The West Florida Argonauts were picked to finish second after having an 8-4 season, and falling to Delta State in the NCAA Division II Championship – Super Region 2.

Delta State, picked third, held a 10-2 record and lost to Valdosta State in the NCAA Division II Championship.

West Alabama (5-5), and North Greenville (5-5) completed the top five. Mississippi College (3-7 last year) placed sixth in the 2024 preseason poll.
