AHOSKIE – Joyce Cullipher Bracy, born February 13th, 1937, in Bertie County North Carolina passed away peacefully at the age of 87, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She married Malcolm Bracy on January 15th, 1961, they were together for over 56 years. They had two daughters during this time together, Pam and Monica. A devoted mother, Joyce embraced her role with grace and devotion. Her faith in God played a vital role in her life. She was a committed Christian who read her Bible and devotional every day without fail. Her love for God was paramount, followed closely by her unwavering love for her family, especially her grandchildren. Her home was referred to as Nannie’s bed and breakfast by her grandchildren. She loved fixing breakfast and whatever they wanted she would cook. Joyce loved to cook. She canned and pickled many vegetables from Malcolm’s Garden. She had the best homemade pickles and homemade chili. Everyone always wanted her recipes.
Joyce graduated high school in Colerain, North Carolina and began her career with the FBI in Washington, DC. She returned home and began a career with Carolina Telephone to which she devoted the next 40 years until her retirement.
She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in her later years. For many years she was a member of Creech Memorial Baptist Church where she worshiped and was a dedicated Sunday School teacher. She formed many lasting relationships. Joyce was a beacon of faith, family, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Henry Cullipher, Sr.; her mother, Goldie Marie Morris Cullipher; her beloved husband, Malcolm “Mac” Bracy; brother, Charlie Henry Cullipher, Jr.; and nephew, Charles Vandy Cullipher.
She is survived by her two daughters, Pamela Hughes and husband Gary of Colerain, and Monica Ben Amor and husband Mohammed of Ahoskie; her two grandsons, Wynne Hughes and wife Nichole of Edenton, and Mason Hughes of Colerain; two great grandchildren, Maycee and Malachi Hughes of Edenton; her brother, Gene Cullipher and wife Annie Ruth of Washington; her sister-in-law, Betty Sue Cullipher of Colerain; nephews, Ellis, Jonathan, Eric, and Darren Cullipher; along with numerous great nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A celebration of Joyce’s life was held on Saturday, August 3rd at Bethany Baptist Church in Perrytown with Reverend Tommy Tripp officiating.
