R.L. Vann High School grads to hold bi-annual reunion

AHOSKIE – Former students and graduates of the former Robert L. Vann High School will return to their educational roots here Aug. 30 – Sept. 2 to celebrate their 15th bi-annual School Reunion.

Numerous events are planned throughout the weekend as the celebration continues Friday through Labor Day Monday.

The event – hosted by R. L. Vann School Reunion, Inc. – officially begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 during registration and a “Meet and Greet” social that will be held (until 11 p.m.) in the old R.L. Vann campus located on Holloman Avenue. The cost is $15 per person.

Activities on Saturday (Aug. 31) will begin at 10 a.m. with opening ceremonies ($15 per person) and a business meeting (for Members and Life Members only) at the school.

On Saturday evening, the reunion participants will enjoy the bi-annual Fellowship Dance (9 p.m. – 1 a.m.) at the Hobson R. Reynolds Elks National Shrine (front building) in Winton. DJ Warren Downing will provide the music. Admission is $30 per person or $50 per couple.

On Sunday (Sept. 1), reunion goers are invited to an 11 a.m. worship service at Zion Grove Baptist Church, located on NC 561 just west of St. John. The Reverend Dennis Slade will bring the message. The annual luncheon will follow the service at The Rock Church, 212 West Church Street, Ahoskie (in front of the Ahoskie Post Office).

The reunion ends on Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 2) with a block party celebration that begins at 10 a.m. at the school campus. Lunch ($30 per person; no tickets are sold on site) is at 12 noon.
