Ahoskie shooter sought

AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Police Department is searching for a man wanted in connection with a break-in and attempted murder case here yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.

The suspect, 20-year-old Maurice Baum Jr. of Elizabeth City, is considered as armed and dangerous, according to Ahoskie Police Chief Michele Garrett.

Garrett said her officers were dispatched at around 6:30 p.m. to a residence at 325 West Church Street. There they found two victims, a male who had been shot and a female that had been assaulted.

The male was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The female was taken to ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital where Garrett said she was treated and released.

Neither of the victims were identified by name.

The motive for the shooting and assault is under investigation.

Garrett said warrants have been issued for Baum’s arrest on one felony count of breaking and entering with intent to terrorize and two felony counts of attempted murder.
