BARCO – The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of a Gates County official.

William M. Tutwiler Jr. was taken into custody on Aug. 22 after he turned himself in on the charge of first degree rape of a child.

Tutwiler, age 47, is employed as the Emergency Management Director in Gates County.

The arrest report showed that Tutwiler resides in Hertford in Perquimans County.

Tutwiler was held under a $250,000 secured bond.

Currituck County Sheriff’s Detective S.J. Gilbert said the case remains an ongoing investigation.
