RICH SQUARE – Pamela Elizabeth Sibley Slade of Rich Square, NC passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024, at the age of 77 in the loving company of her family.

Pam was born in Fitchburg, MA to Leland Robert Sibley and Lois Heyward Sibley on July 15, 1947. She and her two younger sisters, Susan Catherine Kain and Jane Sibley Renfroe, were raised in the Myers Park neighborhood of Charlotte, NC. A dynamic and loving family, they spent their time camping, boating, sailing, fishing and playing music. Pam matriculated from Myers Park High School in 1965, continuing her education at Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia where she was active in music and choral studies. On a summer beach trip, a rogue wave “accidentally” pushed her inner tube into Charles Slade. Afterwards, Pam quickly transferred to UNC Chapel Hill, where she was awarded her B.A. in education in 1969.

Pam married Charles shortly thereafter and they remained in Chapel Hill, where she completed her M.A. in education as he finished law school. She began teaching in the Durham County school system, and gave birth to Jason Marshall Slade, the first of she and Charles’ three boys.

The young family moved to a small farmhouse outside of George NC, in 1972. Pam joined the Northeast Academy faculty, where she taught for over 20 years. There among both the faculty and the student body, she met many of her closest friends. She also taught in the North Carolina public school system for several years. She helped design a passive solar home in Rich Square that was home for the rest of her life. Pam and Charles completed their family there, as they welcomed their second and third sons, Charles Alden Slade (Chip) and Leland Robert Sibley Slade (Lee), into the world.

Pam will be remembered for her kindness and a sincere interest in the lives of those around her. She was comfortable among all, and everyone was comfortable with her. She is survived by her husband, Charles; son, Jason and his wife, Kim; son, Chip and his wife, Claire; son, Lee; and grandchildren, Ian, Kiefer, Liv and Charlie; her sister, Susan Catherine Kain; sister-in-law, Tamara Slade Beamon; nephew, Matthew Charles Beamon; nieces, Christine Renfroe Moore, Heather Kain Watson, Melissa Renfroe Buerckoltz, Holly Beamon Narron.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas Tx, 75284-0692 or the UNC Basnight Cancer Hospital/ UNC Health Foundation, Attn.
