AHOSKIE – Roanoke-Chowan Community College (R-CCC) has announced that starting in the Spring 2025 semester, three programs will be offered 100% online.

The programs are business administration, information technology, and medical office administration. While these programs previously featured several online classes, the Spring 2025 semester will be the first time that these three programs will be 100% online.

“At Roanoke-Chowan Community College, we understand that today’s students need flexible options to balance their education with work, family, and other commitments. By offering these 100% online programs in business administration, information technology, and medical office administration, we are proud to expand access to high-quality education that meets the demands of modern life,” said R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams. “We are committed to helping our students achieve their academic and professional goals, no matter where they are.”

R-CCC Medical Office/Office Administration (MOA/OA) Program Coordinator Kelly Raynor explained that the change will enable prospective and current students to better balance their day-to-day responsibilities with their course work, especially considering that traditional students are typically working full-time and have families at home.

“These programs introduce students to office management and finance, common office software, an understanding of tasks and procedures in an office setting, and many other topics in this area,” Raynor said. “Even though the MOA program will be fully online, students will still be able to easily communicate with their classmates through community centered class discussions and assignments. There are many methods that instruction is delivered by such as virtual environments, immersive simulations, and real-world applicable assignments and projects. Students also have access to me as the program coordinator on-campus, over the phone, or by video conference if they experience any issues in their courses.”

Raynor added, “Being fully online is an incredible advancement for this program and will give graduates the opportunity to accomplish their academic and career goals while limiting the in-person requirements of typical programs.

According to an article from Indeed.com, there are many benefits to online learning including improved flexibility, learning time management skills, easier school-life balance, opportunities to learn technical skills, and opportunities for career advancement, to name a few. There are also considerations for choosing whether to pursue online courses including your home environment, technical ability, and goals.

“Online learning offers incredible flexibility, allowing students to balance their education with other commitments while mastering valuable time management and technical skills,” said R-CCC Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Tanya Oliver. “It opens doors to career advancement and empowers learners to take control of their personal and professional growth. With the right environment and clear goals, online education can be a powerful tool for success. We are excited to offer these three programs as 100% online and look forward to assisting our students to be successful using this format.”

In addition to the three new 100% online programs, the Associate in Arts, Associate in Science and Criminal Justice Technology degrees can be completed 100% online within two years, assuming prerequisite and transition courses have been completed.
