West Florida muscles past Chowan

MURFREESBORO – West Florida rolled up 454 yards of total offense in their decisive 35-6 win over Chowan here Saturday in Gulf South Conference football action.
The visitors from Pensacola rushed for 285 yards on 50 carries while passing for 169 yards.
Leading 7-3, West Florida reeled off three unanswered touchdowns to build a 28-3 cushion. Corey Scott’s 19-yard pass from Marcus Stokes and touchdown runs by Jay Sharpe (11 yards) and T.J. Lane (9 yards) accounted for those scores.
Matthew Conord accounted for all of Chowan’s points as he booted a pair of first half field goals from 31 and 22 yards. On both occasions, Chowan put together long, sustained drives (12 plays, 62 yards that took just over five minutes and 10 plays, 70 yards that consumed nearly four minutes) but couldn’t find the endzone.
The Hawks struggled to establish a running game, mustering only 38 net yards on 27 attempts.
Despite being sacked three times, Chowan quarterback passed for 173 yards on a 21-of-39 effort. He was intercepted once.
Jakobe Lane (8 receptions for 75 yards), Malique Frazier (4-35) and Gabrial Jackson (4-31) led Chowan’s receiving corps.
Kennypride Toh led Chowan’s defense with 11 total tackles. Canii Tucker, Isaiah Fulton, and Omari Kinsler each added five stops.
West Florida improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Chowan fells to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the league.
The Hawks hit the road later this week for their next game, a conference test at West Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 26 in Livingston, Alabama.
