To the Editor:

Many of us in this area have been focused on humanitarian efforts for the people affected from the most recent hurricanes. I, too, have been involved which led me to donate warm coats, and many other items that belonged to my deceased husband.

This endeavor led me to a local organization that is helping the needy, homeless, and those that just need support.

I had never heard of Sage and Sweetgrass at the Bradshaw House Inc. in Ahoskie, NC. This is a 501c3, non-profit, tax-exempt organization.

The Executive Director, Belinda Dixon-Dawson, and her husband, Derrick, were grateful for the donations I made.

Now with the cold weather upon us, they are in need of financial assistance to pay the utility bills….electric, water, internet, etc.

Times are difficult for many and there are homeless people all over our country. Perhaps it is time to focus on our own backyard.

Sage and Sawgrass at the Bradshaw House Inc. is the only local organization in Hertford County that is trying to help people in need. If we can give something, then a combined effort will make a difference.

I am just bringing this to light so that we can help those that require a hand up, not a hand out.

As of this writing, Sage and Sawgrass at the Bradshaw House is assisting 15 individuals.

To donate, visit thebradshawhouse.com or contact them at sageandsweetgrassliving@gmail.com to learn more about how you can assist their efforts.
