Smith’s penalty kick secures Chowan’s 1-0 win

MURFREESBORO – In a strategic encounter on the pitch, Chowan University maintained their lead throughout to secure a narrow 1-0 victory over King University in a league soccer match here Saturday (Oct. 26).
Junior Smith, a highlight for the Hawks, secured the only goal of the match during the first half through a penalty kick at 26:44, which ultimately became the game-winning goal.
Smith’s significant contributions did not stop at scoring as he also kept the pressure high with multiple attempts on goal.
Goalkeeper Chase Jansen was another key player for Chowan, contributing with three crucial saves to earn a shutout and ensure the team’s victory.
With the win, the Hawks move to 7-4-3 overall and 6-2-2 in conference. The Tornado fell to 3-6-4 and 2-4-4 in conference play.
Chowan will travel to Wilson on Nov. 2 for their next match at Barton College.
