MURFREESBORO – In a hard fought encounter here Tuesday, Chowan University fought to a 1-1 draw against UNC Pembroke in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action.
The Hawks move to 4-8-3 overall and 2-6-3 in conference. The Braves are now 9-3-4 and 8-0-4 in conference.
As the match progressed, the intensity on the field escalated, culminating in two late goals that defined the fixture.
Chowan’s Natasha Bailey broke the 0-0 deadlock at 77:41 thanks to an assist from Anna Grossheim, igniting cheers from the home supporters.
However, the Braves responded sharply with Sarah Bonifant finding the back of the net at 88:01, ensuring the spoils were shared.
Both goalkeepers had stellar performances, with Chowan’s Kirsten Petersen and UNC Pembroke’s Anna Bass each making 13 saves, highlighting their crucial roles in the day’s outcome.
Despite the tie, this result adds a valuable point to Chowan’s league tally.
The Hawks are set to face Barton in an away fixture on November 1 in Wilson.
