AHOSKIE – Amy Wilson Brown passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, at the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on August 29, 1958, Amy is a graduate of Ahoskie High School and attended Chowan College. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served on board the USS Vulcan, which was home ported in Norfolk, VA. Before being honorably discharged after 4 years, she crossed the equator and was initiated as a Shellback, which was an honor among sailors. She then worked at Perdue Farms for 8 years and then went to work for Berry Plastics for 11 years. After leaving Berry Plastics, Amy went to Roanoke Chowan Community College and obtained her CNA1 license. She discovered her true calling at Ahoskie House, where she worked with some great ladies who rocked at taking care of the elderly. Due to her health declining, she retired but enjoyed keeping in touch with her former co-workers and residents.

An avid lover of the theatre, Amy worked backstage for several years at the Gallery Theatre and was a devoted member of Grande Illusions Entertainment Group where she became a licensed pyrotechnician for the state of NC. Also, Amy was a charter member of The Basement and The Hotel Haunt, where she proudly worked as a haunt actor.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert (Bob) Brown and Forrestine Snider Brown; and her brother, Dr. Chip Brown; her beloved dog, Rocky; and her adopted sister, Jill Gadsden.

Amy is survived by her niece, Meredith Brown; nephew, Tyler Brown; sister-in-law, Meryl Brown; cousins, Brenda Hollowell-White (Glenn), Judye Bradley (Jim), Dr. V. Glenn Chappell (Barb), Henry Moore Burden III (Harriet); and many other cousins, friends and her beloved chosen family, Tommy Hurdle, Bobby Hoggard, Brandon Jager and her dog niece, Roxie.

Amy was a huge animal lover, especially dogs. In lieu of flowers, Amy requests donations be made to PAWS of Hertford County and the Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice House.

A graveside service will be held at The Ahoskie Cemetery on November 16, 2024 at 1 p.m.
