CONWAY – Luther Godwin “LG” Britt, Jr., of Saffold Street, North Carolina, passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on August 19, 1943, in Como, North Carolina, he was a cherished member of the community and a guiding light to his family and friends.
Luther dedicated much of his life to the service of others. A respected retiree of Union Camp, he poured his heart into the Conway Fire Department, where he served tirelessly for 38 years. As the first recipient of the Fireman of the Year award, Luther was instrumental in shaping the department’s growth and success. His contributions have left a lasting legacy that will benefit the Conway community for generations.
A devoted business partner in his beloved wife’s floral business, Nell’s Florist, Luther supported her many years of service with love and commitment. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he loved his Lord and Savior above all. A dedicated member of Conway Baptist Church, he served as vice president of the deacons and participated wholeheartedly in the church’s nurturing spirit.
Family meant everything to Luther. He cherished every moment with his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandson, Troy. Fond of traveling, he embraced life’s adventures and was always ready for new experiences with those closest to his heart. The playful teasing with his cherished great-grandson will be fondly remembered. In Luther’s passing, we are reminded of the enduring power of love, kindness, and a life well-lived. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
Luther is preceded in death by his father, Luther Godwin Britt, Sr.; mother, Ethel Horne Britt; a grandson, Brandon Warren; sister, Ann White; and brother, Chris Britt.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Juanita Lane Britt of the home; daughters, Michelle Warren Daniel (Ron) of Indian Trail, NC, and Tanya Mizelle (Alan) of Greenville, NC; granddaughter, Tyffany Puryear of Greenville, NC; grandsons, Tucker Warren (Kasara) of Matthews, NC, and Joshua Linder of California; and great-grandson, Troy. He is also survived by his sister, Kay Flythe of Milwaukee; brother-in-law, Stewart Lane (Brenda); and beloved granddog, Waffles.
A celebration of Luther’s life will take place on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 4 p.m. at Conway Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, with burial to follow at Conway Cemetery.
