Chowan men suffer first loss

ELIZABETH CITY – The Chowan University men’s basketball team saw their three game win streak come to an end here Saturday after falling to Elizabeth City State University 73-67 in non-conference action.
The Hawks fell to 3-1 overall after the game while the Vikings improved to 3-1.
Chowan saw nine different players score in the game.
Daylan Askew led the Hawks offensively for the fourth straight outing. The senior guard hit for 13 points while RJ Wilson chipped in 10 points and seven boards.
Eric Gordon Jr. and Aaron Ross contributed eight and six points respectively.
William Hynes scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds.
The Hawks shot just 10% from three point range, hitting just two of 20 from beyond the arc.
The Hawks got off to a slow start in the first half of play but bounced back to tie the game twice and lead at two different points in the second half.
Chowan knotted the game at 46-46 just under the 12 minute mark of the second period to put them in contention. However, ECSU drained a three pointer on their next possession and ran their lead to as many as 10 points over the final 11 minutes of the second half.
The Hawks managed to cut the Vikings lead to three with just under two minutes to play in the game but were forced to foul. ECSU hit 12-14 from the charity stripe in the second half to help hold off the Hawks late in the game.
The Hawks will play their first game on the home court on Monday, Nov. 18, when they entertain West Virginia State University in a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
