Lady Eagles clip Terra Ceia in overtime

PANTEGO – Senior Hayes Hatcher buried a three-pointer at the buzzer and sent Thursday night’s Northeast Academy game against Terra Ceia Christian School to overtime.
Once there, the Eagles pulled away and completed a rally from double digits down to victory, topping the Knights 76-69.
The win was the fourth straight for the Eagles and came two days after knocking off Mattamuskeet at home.
Against Terra Ceia, Hatcher poured in 31 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had seven steals while Chloe Long had a dominating performance, going for a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds.
The Lady Eagles trailed 22-14 after one quarter, but cut the deficit to 35-31 at the intermission. They trailed 53-43 heading into the fourth quarter.
Once in the final period, the Eagles rolled off 19 points, including the buzzer beater to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Eagles got buckets from Hatcher, Long and Lyndsay White and free throws from Hatcher, Long and Lena Taylor to secure the win.
Jessa Pope put in a defensive performance for the Eagles and had two rebounds and three steals.
Rounding out the offensive performance for the Eagles were Taylor and Pope with six each, Arland Davis with five, and White with four.
The win came 48 hours after the Eagles dispatched Mattamuskeet High School, 47-13 on Nov. 19
The Eagles wasted no time jumping out to an early 17-3 lead and never looking back.
Davis started the offensive output with the first four points before being interrupted by a triple from the Lakers.
After a Taylor free throw, Davis and Hatcher exchanged buckets to push the Northeast lead to 13-3. Hatcher then added a pair of free throws before Davis scored again to make it 17-3.
The Eagles led 21-5 at the intermission.
The second quarter saw Pope start the scoring for the Eagles. After a Mattamuskeet hoop, Taylor had a free throw before Davis and Hatcher scored again to run the score to 28-7.
Northeast led 32-8 at the intermission and 39-10 after three quarters.
By the time junior Sarah Sumner closed out the Northeast scoring with 5:48 to play in the game, the Eagles had an insurmountable lead.
The Lady Eagles (4-0) will be at home on Monday, Nov. 25 when they host Christ Convenant.
