Chowan gains split at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – Chowan University opened its Conference Carolinas basketball schedule here Saturday by splitting two games at Emmanuel University.

In the woman’s game, Yasmine Brown led the Hawks offensively with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists in a 70-51 win.

Desiree Askew and Kaleah Boykin each contributed 11 points, with Askew adding four rebounds and Boykin pulling down five. Sa’ni Savage came off the bench for the Hawks, and scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds.

The Hawks (2-0 overall; 1-0 in league play) racked up 29 team rebounds and dished out 18 assists while turning defense into offense with 33 points off turnovers.

Chowan’s bench stepped up big, adding 32 points. Chowan registered 15 fast-break points compared to Emmanuel’s six.

In the men’s game, Chowan fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas play during a 92-77 setback.

Aaron Ross led the way for the Hawks, scoring 21 points and grabbing three rebounds. Daylan Askew contributed 17 points and added six assists. RJ Wilson led the Hawks on the boards, grabbing seven rebounds to go along with his 13 points.

The game saw nine ties and 10 lead changes, with both teams battling for control.

Chowan totaled 26 rebounds, 18 assists, and 10 fast break points. The Hawks capitalized on their bench depth, which contributed 24 points. Chowan scored eight points off turnovers and eight second-chance points.

The CU men’s basketball team will host Augusta University at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1 in their next game.

Chowan’s women will be back on the court on Wednesday, Dec. 4 when they host Elizabeth City State in a 5 p.m. non-conference game.
