COFIELD – Mary Eunice White Castelow, age 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on November 23, 2024 at her home. She was born January 6, 1932 in Bertie County to Bennie Foster and Gency Clee White.
She married the love of her life, Ernest Albert Castelow on August 25, 1951 where they were blessed with five children. Eunice was a loving wife, mother, granny, and homemaker.
In August of 1968, she lost her husband and started working at a sewing factory in Ahoskie to support her family. Later on, she became a telephone operator at Carolina Telephone, where she retired in 1995.
Once Eunice retired she helped raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She joined the Harrisville Chapter 99 OES (Order Of Eastern Star) in 1996, where she held many positions. She was an active member of Holly Springs Baptist Church, where she attended as long as her health permitted, and was the oldest living member.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Ernest Castelow, Sr.; and three of her children, Danny Castelow, Jane Harrell, and Bennie Castelow; three grandchildren, Elizabeth and David Castelow, and Summer Johnson; daughter-in-law Nelda Castelow; and her three brothers, Fitchew, Ollie and Tommy White.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Ellen Jones and husband, Keith; her son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Evie Castelow; her daughter-in-law, Peggy Castelow; son-in-law Lin Harrell and wife, Connie.
Her grandchildren, Linwood Harrell III, Diane and Linwood IV, Benjamine Harrell, Matthew and Colton Castelow and fiancée, Dianna McClellan and son Mason Williams, April, Jayden Goodman and special friend George Wilson, Sarah, Jeremy, Zander and Amber Matthews, Daniel and William Castelow and special friend Hillary Stallings and son Steven Pierce, Marie and John Steinebach, Dylan and Alysa Johnson, Brian, Jessica and Haley Jones and Dylan Mizelle, Kristen, Wesley, Landon and Jaxon Olivey.
Sisters, Annie Mae Bazemore and Helen Fuller; sister-in-law, Sandra Hollowell and husband Eddie; special cousin, Mary Alice Aikins; special friends and retired coworkers, Diane Sumerlin and Teresa Weatherly.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the physicians and staff at RCCHC, the staff at ECU Home Health and Hospice, and her part-time caregivers, Linda Pope and Anisha Lassiter.
During the final stages of her illness, the family had an amazing team giving her around-the-clock care. Words can’t express how much this care was appreciated.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 25, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, and other times at the home.
A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Cofield, NC with Rev. Paul Ange and Rev. Elma Vann officiating. Burial will follow at Harrellsville Cemetery, Harrellsville, NC.
