WINDSOR – The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office has charged two local students for Communicating Threats of Mass Violence on Educational Property.
Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said both students are juveniles.
“They were charged through a juvenile petition and released to their parents or guardians,” Ruffin told the R-C News-Herald this morning (Tuesday). “They will be notified of their court date.”
Ruffin said the first incident occurred on Nov. 13 when a student at Bertie High School threatened to assault staff and shoot the school up.
The second incident occurred on Monday of last week (Nov. 18) when a student at Bertie Middle School called 911 and threatened to shoot the school up.
Both cases were investigated by Bertie Sheriff’s Sergeant S. Coates.
“Acts such as this are something that the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office and Bertie County Public Schools take serious,” Ruffin said in a statement. “Threats of violence is not a game or prank and the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office will investigate each threat as serious and hold any person accountable for such threats.”
