HCHS falls in basketball season opener

AHOSKIE – Hertford County High School opened its 2024-25 basketball season here Tuesday where they were swept by Rocky Mount High.
In varsity boys action, the Bears – under first-year head coach Troy Garris Jr. – got behind by six (16-10) at the end of the first quarter and never caught up, dropping a 73-58 loss.
Rimiez Williams (23 points) and Shimere Garris (22) led the way for the Bears.
Anthony Jones and Brelyn Moses each scored 22 points to pace Rocky Mount.
In the varsity girls game, Rocky Mount built an early 19-4 lead en route to a 62-22 win over the Lady Bears.
Kira Jones led Rocky Mount with 24 points.
There were no stats provided by Hertford County.
Both HCHS teams will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 10 when they host Washington High School in non-conference action.
