Aulander man faces new charges

AULANDER – A 20-year-old local man, on probation for an earlier crime, has been arrested on new charges.

This past Friday (Dec. 6), Investigators with Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, Agents with Down East Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, Investigators with North Carolina Department of Corrections, and North Carolina Probation Officers conducted a search of 405 Chestnut Street in Aulander.

As a result of the search, Ronnie Futrell was charged with three felony counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction, felony possession of cocaine, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Futrell was confined to the Bertie Martin Regional Jail under a $55,000 secured bond.

Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said additional charges may be pending per further investigation.

Ruffin added that Futrell is currently on probation/parole for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a weapon into occupied property.
