Local man arrested for attempted murder

POWELLSVILLE – An arrest has been made in a shooting that occurred here Sunday evening at a Powellsville business.

Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said that deputies were dispatched to the Red Apple in Powellsville in reference to a male that had been shot and the suspect fled on foot.

Once on the scene, criminal investigators identified 27-year-old James Anthony Forehand of Aulander as the suspect. Investigators tracked Forehand down to an address in Ahoskie where the suspect was taken into custody.

Ruffin said Forehand was charged with one felony count of attempted first degree murder. Forehand was taken to the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail in Windsor where he is being held under no bond.

The Sheriff added that the victim was airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville where he is listed in stable condition.

Ruffin thanked the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, Ahoskie Police Department, Bertie County EMS, and Bertie County Communications Center along with his deputies and investigators for their work in this criminal case.
