AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft School raced out to a 15-2 lead over the opening five minutes of play and never looked back as the Rams routed Tidewater Academy, 69-23, here Saturday night in the final game of the Doug Cobbs Scholarship Tournament.
Frank Jones and Antron Gray each had a deuce and a trey to fuel that early outburst. By the time Tyler Berryman and Landon Woodard added a basket each, the Rams were on top 19-6 at the end of the opening period.
After Tidewater’s Camden Hawkins connected on a three-pointer to start the second quarter, Ridgecroft reeled off the game’s next 12 points. Jones and Gray started that offensive flurry with consecutive three-point baskets. Nacir Lewis added a pair of buckets and Javion Leary chipped in a basket off a turnover as Ridgecroft increased its advantage to 31-9 by the 5:22 mark of the period.
Before the quarter ended, Lewis connected on an old-fashioned three-point play followed by treys from Woodard and Harrison Jones that staked the Rams to a 41-15 halftime lead.
Ridgecroft more than sealed the win thanks to a 9-0 run to open the second half. Gray had a trey and a deuce during that outburst while Leary added a pair of baskets.
