Lady Bears dominate Washington High School

AHOSKIE – After losing their season opener to Rocky Mount on Dec. 3, Hertford County’s Lady Bears hoped to put a notch in the win column against the Washington Lady Pam-Pack at home on Dec. 10.
The HCHS ladies exceeded their expectations by dominating the Pack by a score of 60-7. The Pack seven points came in the first quarter as the Bears held them to nil for the remainder of the game.
The Lady Bears were extremely aggressive, tenacious and fully charged as they swarmed the Pack’s offense causing multiple turnovers. On a number of occasions, Washington hardly made it past the half court line.
HCHS executed a full court press for the entire first half, providing the Lady Bears to recover turnovers and led to a plethora of transitional points.
Initially, the Pam Pack managed the press as they attempted to keep the scoring of the Bears at a minimum. The Pam Pack knotted the game twice, once 4-4 with 2:59 on the clock and 6-6 with 3:14 on the clock. The Pack managed to maintain their only lead of the game for approximately 40 seconds.
The first quarter ended with the Bears leading 12-7.
In the second quarter the Pam Pack sent the Bears to the free throw line four times. The Bears were able to make six of eight from the line, in addition to 10 points from the field.
The Bears relinquished the full court press in the second half and downgraded to a zone, which still wreaked havoc on the Pack.
The Bears continued the game with their offensive onslaught paired with their defensive effort until the buzzer sounded ending the game.
The Lady Bears scored 12 points in the first quarter, 18 points in the second, 13 points in the third and 17 in the fourth quarter.
Senior Brooklyn White led the Bears in scoring with 17 points, which included a trio of three-point baskets.
Jameilya Lewis and Acasia Weaver both scored nine points and Terry Hunt added eight points.
Karae’ Alfred two offensive rebounds and five defensive rebounds for a total of seven caroms for the Bears. Darianna Everette had a total of five rebounds, four offensive and one defensive.
The Bears with travel towards the Outer Banks to face-off against the Currituck Knights on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Game time is 6 p.m.
