Chowan women collect 30-point win over Mt. Olive

MURFREESBORO – Chowan University used a 22-7 run in the second quarter to open up a big lead en route to a 68-38 win against the University of Mount Olive Trojans here Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas women’s game.

The Hawks used the win to remain undefeated (6-0 overall; 3-0 in the conference).

Chowan’s bench came up clutch, dropping down 29 points. The Hawks owned the paint, turning 25 offensive boards into 29 second-chance points. The Hawks grabbed 45 rebounds (25 offensive, 20 defensive), keeping control of the boards.

Desiree Askew notched a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while also contributing five assists and four steals.

Nyeshia Savage added her own double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Meara Carter chipped in eight points and eight rebounds. Yasmine Brown also scored eight points while Aniyah Rainey finished with seven points.

The Hawks will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 17 with a 1 p.m. game at North Greenville.
