WINDSOR – Two local men were recently arrested by the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office for separate crimes.

The latest arrest came on Saturday (Dec. 14) during a traffic stop on Governors Road near Lewiston for a motor vehicle violation. Bertie Sheriff Tryone Ruffin said that when deputies D. Mizzelle and A. Cherry made contact with the driver of the vehicle they detected the strong odor of marijuana.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in a large quantity of marijuana and U.S. currency, leading to the arrest of Terrell Craig, age 20, of Rich Square. Craig was charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sale and deliver marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Craig was confined in the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.

On Dec. 12, officers with the Windsor Police Department served outstanding arrest warrants from the Bertie Sheriff’s Office on Raheeme Mitchell. He was wanted for felony breaking or entering and felony larceny.

Sheriff Ruffin said the charges against Mitchell stemmed from a crime that occurred in Lewiston Woodville. Those warrants were obtained on Nov. 2 after Mitchell was identified on surveillance video breaking into the Lewiston Citgo. Mitchell was accused of stealing multiple lottery tickets, cigarettes, and other miscellaneous items.

Mitchell was taken into custody without incident and confined into the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail without bond.
