RICH SQUARE – Richard Franklin Vick, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the age of 68. Born on March 28, 1956, in Ahoskie, North Carolina to Dorothy Morris Vick and Joyel Dudley Vick.
Richard was a dedicated Sales Manager in the parts department at Eddie Harrell’s Auto and Sports Store, where he worked for many years, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and customers alike. His passions extended beyond his professional life; he was an avid fisherman, tended to his goldfish with care, and enjoyed many family camping adventures that created a lifetime of fond memories.
A stalwart member of the Rich Square community, Richard contributed over 35 years of service as a dedicated volunteer firefighter with the Rich Square Volunteer Fire Department. Richard’s legacy of love, service, and integrity will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard held dear the title of “Pop Pop,” conferred upon him by his treasured grandchildren. His family was the center of his world, and he leaves behind his loving wife, Elizabeth Futrell Vick of the home; his devoted daughters, Jennifer Byrum of Rich Square, and Stacey Vick of Fort Myers, FL; his cherished grandson, Hayden Byrum; and his beloved granddaughter, Alaiya Vick. He will be dearly missed by numerous cousins, extended family members, and friends, whose lives he touched in profound ways. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his wife, children, and grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Morris Vick and Joyel Dudley Vick.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square and at other times at their home. A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Rich Square Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. John Thompson. Following this, Richard will be laid to rest at Cedarlawn Cemetery, Rich Square with Fireman Honors. Pallbearers will be the honorable Members of the Rich Square Volunteer Fire Department, a testament to his years of unwavering service.
