Murfreesboro man dies from wreck

MURFREESBORO – A two-car head-on crash here Dec. 27 has resulted in the death of one person.
O’Bryan Gatling, 28, of Murfreesboro died Monday morning (Dec. 30) at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville as a result of injuries he sustained in the accident.
According to a report filed by Trooper Bruce Beard of the State Highway Patrol, Gatling was a passenger in a 1999 Mitsubishi, driven by his mother, 49-year-old Sadie Mae Gatling of Murfreesboro.
Her vehicle was southbound on Storey Road, located off US 158 Business, at approximately 8:14 p.m. At that time, a 2012 BMW passenger car, driven by Tre’von Banks, age 29, of Murfreesboro, was northbound on Storey Road.
The accident report showed that both vehicles traveled left of center, hitting each other head-on.
Both drivers were treated for their injuries at ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. O’Bryan Gatling was airlifted to Greenville.
Beard charged both drivers with traveling left of center. Additionally, he charged Sadie Mae Gatling with DWI, reckless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, and having an open container.
Other charges are pending per consultation with the local District Attorney.
