WESLEY CHAPEL, FL – Margaret Annie Reid Lassiter, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at BayCare Hospital in Wesley Chapel, Florida, surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years old.
Born on January 21, 1932, in Ahoskie, Hertford County, North Carolina, Margaret was a cherished daughter of Martha James Reid and Otis Reid. From a young age, she exemplified a spirit of joy, resilience, and a deep devotion to her family, values that guided her throughout her life.
Margaret dedicated 27 years of service as a small appliance assembler with General Electric. She was known as a hardworking and diligent employee who took great pride in her work. A woman of many passions, Margaret was the life of the party, known for her warm hospitality and knack for bringing people together. She loved celebrating life’s moments with friends and family over delicious meals, especially her famous meatloaf and cabbage, always prepared with love. Her home was often the gathering place, always filled with laughter and joy.
Margaret had a fierce loyalty to her family, whom she cherished above all else. She took immense pleasure in traveling with her late husband, Thomas Augustus Lassiter, Jr., exploring new places, and creating lasting memories with their family. Some of her happiest times were spent vacationing in Nags Head, where everyone felt at home.
An avid gardener, Margaret found peace and fulfillment in tending to her beautiful flowers, creating a sanctuary that brought joy to all who visited. Her kindness and lively spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Martha James and Otis Reid; her beloved husband of 58 years, Thomas Augustus Lassiter, Jr.; and her three sons, Thomas Augustus Lassiter, III, Dennis Lassiter, and William “Bobby” Lassiter.
She leaves behind a legacy of love embodied by her daughter, Deborah Lassiter of Wesley Chapel, FL; her sons, Robert Lassiter of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Rick Lassiter of Bristol, CT; her grandchildren, Ian, Xavier, and Maximillian Lassiter, all of Connecticut, and Yloni Almeida Lassiter of Florida; her great-grandson, Sai Almeida of Florida; her special daughter, Carolyn Perkins of Connecticut; her sister, Edith Patterson of Greensboro, NC; her brother, Horace Reid of Washington, DC; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, NC. A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Gatling. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Reid Family Cemetery in Ahoskie, NC. The repass will be held at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church.
