GARYSBURG – As part of repairs stemming from a water main break in the Hilltop Drive area of Garysburg on Friday, the Rockfish Capital Bridge (US 301 / US 158) leading into Weldon will also be closed, a North Carolina State Department of Transportation spokesman said Monday.
Timothy D. Hass, Division 1 communications officer, said there is nothing wrong with the Rockfish Capital Bridge.
The bridge in question is a small bridge, referred to as the Overwash Bridge where a 12-inch water main broke.
However, to facilitate repairs to the approach structure in the Hilltop Drive area, the Rockfish Capital Bridge will also have to be closed, Hass said.
According to DriveNC, Hilltop Drive is off US 301 / US 158 southwest of Garysburg. At the time of the water main break, the roadway was under-washed shortly after 3:15 p.m. Friday.
Hass said the water main has been repaired but the approach slab has to be fixed.
He said NDOT anticipates the repairs to be completed by the weekend.
