MILLENNIUM – Kenneth Oscar Jones, 79, fondly known as Oscar, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at his home surrounded by his beloved family. Born on November 10, 1945 in Hertford County, North Carolina, Oscar spent his entire life in the community he held dear.

As a graduate of Bertie High School, Oscar’s rich personal journey led him to dedicate his life to faith, giving his heart to the Lord on April 11, 1986. He was a longstanding and devoted member of the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served multiple terms as a deacon. Oscar shared his testimony and devotion to God tirelessly. He taught Royal Rangers at MPHC, taught Sunday School at Pinewood Manor, and delivered messages at various churches as a guest pastor. His humble, yet unwavering, spirit was an unending witness to those around him, embodying his love for the Lord above all else. Among his many cherished moments, officiating the weddings of his granddaughters Kimberly and Ally was a profound honor for him.

A man with a passion for community service, Oscar was a former member of the Aulander Jaycees, enjoyed coaching Aulander youth football, and served as chief judge at the election polls at the Millennium Precinct. He was fondly known as the “Lance Man”, an identity he proudly embraced throughout his years of service until retirement. He further served his community by volunteering at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital as a Patient and Family Advisor. Oscar also found joy in playing golf, driving his tractor, and mowing grass.

Oscar’s greatest joy in life came from time spent with his family. He was a dedicated husband, Daddy, PaPa, Uncle Monk, and K.O. to his closest friends. He also played an important role in the lives of Linda’s siblings and mother, loving them as he did his own.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Farmer Jones and Aris “Baldy” Jones; his siblings, Sidney Jones, Violet Jones Cooke, and Ernestine “Tine” Jones; his nephew, Jonathan Jones; and his beloved fur baby, Lexi.

Oscar is survived by the love of his life, his wife Linda (“Sug”) of the home; their children, Lisa Rushing and husband, Tim of Aulander, Dee Dee Morris and husband, Chris of Kelford, and Ken Jones and wife, Jennifer of Aulander; grandchildren, Kimberly Askew (Steven), Ally Castelloe (Jerry), Brittany Odom (Victoria), Nicholas Morris, Anna Jones, and Brandon Jones; great grandchildren, Emma Castelloe, Evi Watson, Jackson Castelloe, Averie, Aylin, and Adyson Stroud; his mother-in-law, Belva Morris; his lifelong friend, John Outlaw; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
