R-C area schools and courts remain closed today (Thursday) as the region slowly thaws out from Tuesday’s winter storm that left snow and sub-freezing temperatures in its wake.

As far as travel is concerned locally, most of the main highways are basically clear, although there are some isolated icy spots.

However, the back roads remain heavily icy in spots, especially in shady areas.

Extreme caution is encouraged for those traveling on R-C area roads today and again tonight.

Today’s weather forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 34 degrees. The overnight low will be in the upper teens.

Things begin to warm up on Friday and into the weekend. Sunny to mostly sunny skies are in the forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday’s and Saturday’s high will be in the low 40s. Sunday will see a high temp of 50 degrees. Low temps during that period will range from 15 degrees on Friday to the low and mid 20s on Saturday and Sunday.
