Gunfire injures two juveniles

AHOSKIE – Two juveniles suffered gunshot wounds here last night (Wednesday) and the Ahoskie Police have developed persons of interest as part of their ongoing investigation.

The extent of injuries to both juveniles is not known. They were transported to a hospital.

According to a press release sent today (Thursday) by the Ahoskie Police Department, they were dispatched to a “shots fired” call in the area of West Street and Alton Street at approximately 8:30 pm on Wednesday.

While en route to that location, officers received information that two people had been shot and were at the Tomahawk Motel. Upon the police arriving at the motel, they were met by two juveniles suffering gunshot wounds.

The investigation then turned to the area of West Street and Alton Street. There, police located numerous shell casings and other items of evidence. They also located vehicles and residences damaged by gunfire.

“Persons of interest have been developed and we are diligently investigating this incident,” said Ahoskie Police Chief Michele Garrett. “Further information may be released about this incident as it becomes available.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families at this difficult time,” Garrett added.

Garrett thanked her officers as well as those from responding local agencies – Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Down East Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force – for their assistance.
