Joseph Oliver Pierce, 79, of Ahoskie died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A native of Bertie County, he was retired from Freeman Metal Company in Ahoskie. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Viola Hodges Pierce; two daughters, Patricia Harris of Ahoskie and Betty Greer of Littleton; a son, Richard Allen Pierce of Cofield; step-sons, Wayne Pierce of Haysville, Steve Pierce of Gatesville and Terry Pierce of Florida; step-daughters, Joan Evans of Ahoskie and Connie Pierce of Harrellsville; brothers, David Pierce of Eure and John Pierce of Windsor; sisters, Fanny Bazemore of Harrellsville and Nancy Currin of Hope Mills; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 5 at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, with the Rev. Robert May and the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 4 at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hickory Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
