LA ladies edge Northeast

JACKSON – Lawrence Academy improved to .500 for the season here Tuesday.
The Lady Warrior tennis team edged Northeast Academy 5-4 to improve to 2-2 this season.
Lawrence top seed Bailey Nelson defeated Ivey Little by dual counts of 6-3 to get things started for the Warriors.
Northeast came back in the second seeded matchup when Kaitlin Foster defeated Brittany Lancaster by a count of 7-6 and 6-4. The Lady Eagles continued to win in the number three matchup when Mollie Cocke topped Margaret Nelson by dual counts of 6-2.
The Warriors claimed victory in the next two seeds, however, with Alyssa Byrum claiming a 6-4, 6-4 win over Robyne Barnes in the battle of fourth seeds and Maggie Daniels securing a win over Lauren Flythe 6-3, 6-4 in the number five matchup.
Northeast evened the singles competition when Olivia Brown defeated Heather Hughes 6-0, 6-0 in the number six matchup.
The doubles competition was furious as all three matches came down to 8-6 final scores.
In the battle of the top seeds, Little and Foster defeated B. Nelson and Lancaster, but Lawrence won the final two contests when Byrum and Daniels defeated Cocke and Barnes and M. Nelson and Hughes topped Barnes and Flythe.
Lawrence will travel to Bear Grass today (Thursday) for another non-conference matchup.
