Hey Hawks Fans!
The athletes of Chowan University have been putting in a lot of work to make you all proud and it is showing in their performances!
The Chowan Volleyball team is continuing their success in the CIAA by picking up a pair of wins against Bowie State and Lincoln University. The Hawks are now 13-5 overall and 11-1 in league play.
The men and women’s soccer teams recently took a loss to Southern Virginia and Averett University. Alyssa Anderson (who scored the only goal) and goal keeper Jennifer Harvell (who had 10 saves) shined in the Southern Virginia loss. Antonia Carrabotta was the all-star in the men’s loss against Southern Virginia by scoring the only two goals for Chowan.
Jennifer Harvell had a solid 13 saves in the game against Averett to keep the game at a 1-0 score for the women; however, the Averett Cougars were the ones on top.
Jose Oteze and Dale Pearson worked as a pair to hold a short 3-2 lead over Averett, but Chowan later let the lead slip and fell to the Cougars 4-3.
Pedro Aiala and Natalya Kamenshchikova from the men’s and women’s tennis teams were able to win matches in both singles and doubles for the Hawks at the Hampton Invitational Tennis Tournament.
The men’s cross country team tied for third place in the Trojan Cross Country Invitational at Virginia State University while the women’s team took a second place standing.
The Chowan University football team took a heart-breaking loss against Bowie State Saturday evening. Going into play the Hawks were 2-0 in CIAA play hoping to keep up what streak they had started.
Unfortunately, Keith Brown of Bowie State had a solid 57 yard touchdown rush with just 39 seconds left on the clock to seal the victory for the bulldogs 35-31. Chowan gathered 536 yards on the night with Elliot Smalls guiding the Hawks who totaled 127 rushing yards of the 536. Ryan Nolan had a total of 130 receiving yards for the offense as well.
Defensively, Dakorian DeSamme had eight tackles in the loss (five solo, three assisted). William Griffith and TJ Batchelor put in work with seven tackles each. Chowan is set to host Virginia Union on this coming up Saturday at 6 p.m.
