WINTON – There will soon be a change at the very core of Hertford County’s management structure.

Assistant County Manager Patricia M. Weaver has decided to end her career with Hertford County as of September 25.

“I would like to inform you that I am retiring from my position with Hertford County effective September 25, 2010,” Weaver wrote in a letter to the Hertford County Commissioners and County Manager Loria D. Williams. “Thank you for the opportunities for professional and personal development that you have provided me over the past thirty-five years.

“I have really enjoyed working for the county and appreciate all of the support provided me during my tenure with Hertford County Local Government,” Weaver said.

Weaver expressed mixed emotions about her decision.

“While I look forward to enjoying my retirement, I will miss working for the county and all of the friendships that I have made during that time,” she wrote in the letter. “If I can be of any assistance during this transition, please let me know.”

Williams said she knew Weaver would be missed by everyone she worked with.

“She cares so deeply for others,” Williams said. ���It’s impossible to work around her and not just think so much of Pat and care deeply for her because she is such a caring person.”

Williams said Weaver had been a help, especially when she first took the job as Hertford County Manager.

“Without a doubt, her assistance was immeasurable as I was transitioning into the role of manager of a new jurisdiction,” Williams said. “Sometimes as county managers, we like to think we know it all, but we don’t and there are a lot of changes from each jurisdiction and she helped guide me through those.

“I always say she is the yin to my yang,” Williams added. “She has always provided me with balance and insight that I needed that was converse to my own.”

During last week’s meeting of the Hertford County Commissioners, the board began the process of replacing Weaver who serves not only as Assistant County Manager, but as Clerk to the Board of Commissioners.

The board approved searching for an Assistant County Manager/Human Resources Director to begin the process of replacing Weaver. The new position will be a Grade 25 on the state salary schedule with a range of $53,666-$83,182.

The position of Clerk to the Board will be addressed at a later meeting.
