Northeast Academy split a pair of tennis outings last week.

The Lady Eagles traveled to Gatesville and defeated Gates County High School 8-1 before suffering an 8-1 setback at the hands of Northeastern High School.

In the win over Gates County, Northeast secured five singles victories and three doubles triumphs.

Northeast number two seed Taylor Cocke led the victory by blanking her Baron opponent, Norah Tyler, 8-0. Also winning with a spotless mark was Lady Eagle Allyson Leggett who took an 8-0 win over Tiffany Tison in the battle of five seeds.

Kalen Rose secured another victory at the number one seed for the Lady Eagles, defeating Ranae Parsain 8-1. Fourth-seeded Ivey Little won by the same count for Northeast in her match with Sarah Miller.

Sixth-seeded Millie Cocke garnered the final singles victory for Northeast when she defeated Arnesha Eason 8-4.

The lone victory for Gates County came at the number three slot where Allyson Owens topped Ashlynn Bridgers 8-2.

In doubles action, Rose and T. Cocke defeated Parsain and Owens 8-3 in the top-seeded contest. They won that matchup 8-3.

Second seeded doubles team Little and Leggett also triumphed as they beat Tyler and Miller 8-1. Third seeded doubles M. Cocke and Bridgers knocked off Tison and Eason 8-1.

A day later, the Lady Eagles suffered an 8-1 setback to Northeastern High School.

The single win for Northeast came in the number five singles matchup where Leggett defeated Sarah Harris 8-4.

Fourth-seeded Taylor Cocke battled with Northeastern’s Ali Pfeiffer, but fell by a final of 8-5.

Northeastern won the battle of number one seeds when Mirie Cooper defeated Rose 8-2 and the number two matchup as Lee Ann Pfeiffer topped Bridgers 8-1.

Katy Murray defeated Jones 8-0 in the number three matchup and A. Wood topped Mollie Cocke 8-3 in the number six matchup.

Northeastern swept the doubles competition to win 8-1.

Northeast Academy will be on the road tomorrow (Wednesday) as they travel to Elizabeth City for a rematch with Northeastern.
