Bethel sweeps Consolation

MERRY HILL – Bethel Christian Academy swept the Junior Varsity Consolation games of the Lt. Nick Brantley Scholarship Tournament here Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles knocked off Pungo Christian Academy 24-4 while Bethel’s boys defeated Lawrence Academy 36-18.

Bethel scored the only hoop in the first quarter with 2:57 to play. Kristin Adams had that bucket as they led 2-0 after one quarter.

Kelsey Conner had back-to-back hoops for the Lady Eagles in the second quarter and Adams added another bucket. Pungo’s first score came when Hannah Mutschler scored with 23 seconds to play in the first half.

Bethel led 8-2 at the intermission.

The Lady Eagles scored 10 points in the third quarter thanks to a trio of hoops from Elizabeth Farmer and a bucket each from Adams and Conner. BCA led 18-2 after three quarters.

Adams scored the first hoop of the fourth quarter for Bethel before Karissa Cahoon had PCA’s next hoop to close the gap to 20-4.

Bethel had the final two hoops thanks to consecutive hoops from Conner as they went on to the 20-point win.

Conner led Bethel with 10 points while Adams had eight and Farmer added six.

JV Boys

Bethel Christian got 14 points from Kyle Freeman and 10 from Daniel Feher as they took a 36-18 victory.

Lawrence led early thanks to three consecutive hoops from Jesse White, but Bethel got back into the game with a hoop by Feher and consecutive baskets by Freeman. Trey Hoggard added a free throw with 15 seconds to play in the first quarter to give Bethel a 7-6 lead.

Freeman hit back-to-back-to-back buckets to open the second quarter as the Eagles extended their lead to 13-6.

Darren Armstrong and Dallas Belch had hoops for Lawrence and Armstrong added a free throw as the Warriors closed within 13-11.

Hoggard hit both ends of a 1-plus-1 to close out the first half as Bethel led 15-11 at the intermission.

Armstrong started the second half with a hoop for the Warriors, but Bethel got the final three hoops and led 21-13 at the end of the third quarter. Feher had two hoops and Shane Tripp added one.

Bethel added to the lead with the first three hoops of the fourth quarter as they went on to victory.
