Eagles top Gates, fall to Faith

Northeast Academy kept its overall tennis record even.
The Lady Eagles split two outings, falling to Faith Christian School 5-4 before bouncing back to down Gates County High School 8-1.
Against the Lady Barons, Northeast swept all six singles matches and won two-of-three in doubles to secure the win.
Top-seed Kaylen Rose started the winning way for Northeast with an 8-2 win over Alice Owens. Second-ranked Haley Jones then defeated Norah Tyler by a count of 8-6.
Ivey Little secured an 8-2 win over Sara Miller in the battle of number two seeds and Allyson Leggett topped Arnisha Eason 8-6 at number four.
Fifth-seeded Taylor Cocke topped Reshawn Walton 8-2 and sixth-seeded Mollie Cocke defeated Tiffany Tison 8-2.
In doubles action, T. Cocke and Little defeated Miller and Eason at number two and Ashland Bridgers and Leggett topped Walton and Tison at number three.
Gates County’s lone win came at number one doubles where Owens and Tyler edge Rose and Jones 9-8.
The Lady Eagles secured two victories in singles and two in doubles against Faith Christian.
Jones, playing at number three, defeated Samantha Gurganus 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 for the first singles win. T. Cocke rolled over Alex Channey by dual counts of 6-2 for the other victory.
Theresa Hall defeated Rose at number one by counts of 6-2 and 6-3 while Kristin Watson topped Bridgers 6-1, 6-0.
Catherine Channey stopped Leggett 6-0, 6-4 and Ashley Knight beat M. Cocke 6-1 and 6-3.
In doubles action, Northeast won the second and third-seeded matchups to pull even, but came up short in the top seeded matchup to fall 5-4.
Northeast ended the two contests 6-6 overall.
