CHESAPEAKE, VA – Terence “Terry” Matthew McAuley, age 92, passed away December 24, 2012 in Chesapeake, VA after approximately two years of declining health.
Terry was born in Darlington, England on November 9, 1920 of Irish parents, Ted McAuley and Sarah Cooper McAuley. The family lived in Ireland until they immigrated to the US and settled in Philadelphia, where Terry lived until a visit to North Carolina as a teenager changed his life. He loved the slow paced small town life surrounding Murfreesboro, so he decided to get a job and move south. He found a job at Riverside Basket Factory and soon married his first wife, Hattie Joyner. He often entertained his family with stories of his adventures as an Irish “Yankee” in Murfreesboro.
He eventually went to work for Hercules Chemical Company as a mechanic and was there until his retirement. Terry became a volunteer fireman and served for many years. He also became a Mason and spent many years in Masonic service. Following the death of his first wife, he married Dorothy “Dot” Mann Boone. They later relocated to the Outer Banks and lived there until Dot’s death in 2010. Terry’s declining health resulted in his moving to an assisted living facility in Chesapeake where he was living at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Hattie; second wife Dorothy; infant son Dennis; daughter Linda McAuley Allsbrook; and son Edward Matthew McAuley.
Terry is survived by son-in-law Jimmy Allsbrook of Virginia Beach, VA and grandsons Jay Allsbrook with wife Ashley of Portsmouth, VA, and Mike Allsbrook with wife Debbie of Virginia Beach, Va.
